Software Went Headless. Your Workforce Is Next.
Every Wednesday we break down search traffic to understand where companies are prioritizing their transition to flexible talent. This week we are seeing something we have not seen before: a massive diversification of what companies are searching for.
1. There is a concept in software called "headless vs visible." Seema Amble at a16z wrote about it this week. The premise is simple: if you have to go to HubSpot to manage your CRM, it is visible. If you can work with your CRM inside of Claude, it is headless. The implication for software is that data becomes the hard part, not the app.
2. The same thing is happening to the workforce. The ability to access the exact right individual is now more important than the tool, the process, or the industry jargon. Yet most companies, especially procurement departments, have indexed on tools and processes. Not the actual success of the business team.
3. The result is executives saying "slash it." 10-50% layoffs across industries. And 60% of contingent spend is now classified as "rogue." Which was not a problem until it became the majority of how companies actually get work done.
4. Your peers are searching differently. This month 8 new categories appeared on Human Cloud that we have never seen before: construction, civil engineering, instructional design, finance, digital task automation, home health, and more. Companies are no longer searching for generic "staffing." They are searching for the exact specialist who solves their business problem.
